🎻 Viola Size Guide – Find the Right Fit

Choosing the correct viola size helps students play more comfortably and with proper technique. Use this chart to find the right size based on arm length and approximate age.

📏 How to Measure Arm Length:

Have the student extend their left arm straight out (not bent), and measure from the neck to the middle of the palm.

Viola Size Arm Length Approximate Age
12″ 20″–22″ (51–56 cm) 6–7 years
13″ 22″–23″ (56–58.5 cm) 7–9 years
14″ 23″–24.5″ (58.5–62 cm) 9–11 years
15″ 24.5″–26″ (62–66 cm) 11–13 years
15.5″–16″ 26″+ (66+ cm) 13+ years

🎯 Note: Violas don’t follow the same fractional sizes as violins. The numbers refer to inches (body length of the viola).
🎒 If your student is between sizes, it’s often best to choose the smaller viola for ease of playing.
