🎶 Monthly Music Spotlight: Teacher & Student of the Month
Teacher of the Month – Mia
We are excited to recognize Teacher Mia as our September Teacher of the Month!
Mia teaches Saxophone, Trumpet, Piano, Trombone, and French Horn at Irvine Academy of Music. Her love for music began at a young age, inspired by her father, a piano player who introduced her to everything from Chopin to The Beatles.
She chose the trumpet in elementary school and later decided to pursue a Music Education degree after becoming more involved in her high school music program.
What Mia enjoys most about teaching is seeing her students grow, whether they are learning their first new note or mastering a challenging piece. Her goal is to one day become a high school band director and lead a music program of her own.
Congratulations, Teacher Mia! Thank you for inspiring our students and helping them grow as musicians. 🎺🎹🎶
Student of the Month: Jakin Lee
🎉 Congratulations to Jakin Lee, our September Student of the Month! 🎉
Jakin is a dedicated trumpet student who has been playing since 5th grade. He practices about two hours each week and continues to show wonderful effort, focus, and enthusiasm in his lessons. His commitment to learning and improving is something we are very proud to celebrate.
Learning an instrument takes patience, consistency, and practice, and Jakin continues to show that steady effort leads to real progress. Outside of music, he also enjoys playing basketball. 🏀
We are excited to see Jakin continue developing his trumpet skills and growing in confidence as a musician.
Congratulations, Jakin! Keep up the great work and keep making music! 🎺🌟

Playing a musical instrument involves many areas of the brain at the same time.
A musician may be reading notes, listening, keeping rhythm, controlling hand movements, remembering patterns, and expressing emotion all within nano seconds.
That’s part of what makes learning an instrument such a unique and rewarding activity for students!
September Practice Tip

New classes, homework, sports, and after-school activities can make September especially busy.
The good news is that practicing doesn’t always need to mean sitting down for an hour.
Even 10 to 15 minutes of focused practice each day can help students develop consistency and keep progressing.
Try choosing a regular practice time, such as:
After school • Before dinner • After homework • Before screen time
The goal is to make music a natural part of the student’s daily routine.
A little practice every day can lead to big progress over time!
